Zinc

Zinc, the mineral that everyone is now talking about because of Covid-19. It is included in the nutritional protocols for the prevention and treatment of Covid  (along with vitamins A, C and D).

Why? Let’s see if we should take it.

▪️ Zinc regulates the synthesis of all proteins in the body, many cells and organs need it. This is the most versatile protein stimulator and regulator.
▪️ Zinc is involved not only in the synthesis of proteins but also nucleic acids (DNA, RNA). It is the most important immunoregulatory agent (regulates immunity).
▪️ In our body, zinc is needed everywhere and every time.  Therefore, it is considered an important mineral and its deficiency is fraught with consequences .

But zinc, in addition to immunoregulatory, also has a direct bacteriostatic (antimicrobial) effect.
▪️ Zinc is a critical factor in the division and maturation of all cells, including skin cells.
It is also critical for the reproductive system, healthy growth and development of children, bone health, vision, hearing, digestion, skin and hair growth.

Zinc deficiency can cause a wide variety of symptoms, such as:
▪️Child growth retardation, poor appetite, infertility in men and women, hair loss, low immunity, white dots on the nails, dry skin, acne, acne, diarrhea, depression, hormonal imbalance, distortion of taste and smell.
Zinc deficiency can increase the risk of thyroid and gastrointestinal disorders. Zinc is essential for their normal functioning.

What aggravates zinc deficiency?
▪️Alcohol, diarrhea, pregnancy, chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys, chronic infections, injuries, type 2 diabetes.

Considered the most important male mineral, zinc is essential for many spectrums of male health: hormonal, prostatic, and muscle tissue.

The body does not store zinc, so if it is not consumed enough, a deficiency can develop very quickly.
▪️I must say that severe zinc deficiency is rare, but moderate and mild- everywhere (in about 75% of the population).

Do we need to take zinc separately?
▪️In principle, you can rely on food sources – oysters, clams, red algae, seaweed, fresh ginger, pumpkin seeds, legumes, lamb meat are considered classics of the genre.
▪️But they often resort to supplements, especially in the autumn-winter period and at the risk of viral infections.
▪️ Definitely, it is better to use organic forms of zinc (chelate, picolinate, gluconate, citrate and zinc carnosine for the stomach).
Pharmacy zinc sulfate is taken orally, not good idea (they can only gargle or suck on special lollipops).

Adults need to take 15-30mg of zinc per day. Children 5-15mg. In viral diseases, the doses are doubled.
It is important that when taking zinc for a long time, it is imperative to add copper, it is advisable to do this under the guidance of a specialist.
